Senior Associate

Lauren Bishop

Lauren has extensive insurance litigation experience, managing a significant caseload of litigated matters ranging from moderately complex, through to higher value disputes up to $200k.

Since her admission in 2020, she has managed cases across worker’s compensation (in both the Commonwealth and Western Australia jurisdictions), motor injury insurance, and public liability.

She acts for insurers, governments and corporate clients, from early investigations through to hearing, drafting detailed advices on liability and quantum, preparing evidence, briefing counsel where required, and appearing as an advocate.

Lauren is well versed at navigating each stage of the process and understands the procedural and evidentiary requirements that underpin successful outcomes, including the strategic use of medical evidence, factual investigation, and statutory frameworks.

Her experience includes resolving matters through negotiated settlement, structured agreements and formal offers, as well as successfully running matters to hearing where resolution is not appropriate. This breadth of litigation experience has equipped Lauren with strong technical, procedural, and advocacy skills.

Lauren is commercially focused and often deals directly with claims managers, influencing broader claims strategy and ensuring alignment between legal risk, commercial objectives, and scheme considerations. Her approach integrates early factual investigations and evidentiary analysis to identify resolution options at the earliest possible stage.

Lauren has successfully negotiated liability in a range of contested workers’ compensation matters by identifying evidentiary weaknesses and leveraging them strategically at mediation. This includes challenging factual causation, scrutinising inconsistencies in medical evidence, and obtaining targeted surveillance and medical material to undermine the applicant’s case. For example, in recent times, Lauren has persuaded several applicants to withdraw their Applications following focused liability negotiations, including one workers’ compensation matter where perseverance and clear articulation of litigation risk shifted the applicant’s position entirely. In other matters, Lauren has secured favourable concessions prior to or at mediation by presenting a structured risk analysis that exposed the weaknesses in the applicant’s case and reinforced her client’s preparedness to proceed to hearing if required.

In addition to her advisory experience, Lauren appears as an advocate at mediation conferences. Her approach has resulted in consistently favourable outcomes, often resolving matters well below authorised settlement instructions.

Lauren graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Curtin University in Perth in 2019.
