Andrew Gulyas
Andrew predominantly practices across general liability and public liability matters, acting for clients ranging from cleaning companies to major shopping centre operators, right across Australia. He regularly appears before the District and Supreme Courts of NSW, Queensland, the ACT and Victoria. He has extensive experience managing matters from pre-litigation stage to conclusion, including claims management and indemnity-related advice strategy. Andrew also deals with all aspects of liability risks (potential or otherwise) for various commercial entities.
In addition, Andrew is able to provide advice on policy response, risk management, Directors & Officers liability, as well as property damage claims.
Before moving into the general/ public liability space, Andrew’s background was in Commonwealth workers’ compensation and the associated subrogated recoveries. He spent several years representing licensees and self-insurers under the Safety, Rehabilitation & Compensation Act 1988. This work included representation before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Federal Court of Australia and High Court of Australia.
Across all areas of his practice, Andrew is known for his skill in thorough research and confident advocacy. His approach is never ‘cookie cutter’; he always has clients’ commercial objectives at the forefront as he’s designing the unique legal strategy to meet their needs.
Andrew is focused on sensible, commercially minded outcomes. He has a proven track record acting for London-based insurers, local insurers and brokers, self-insureds and third-party agents across professional indemnity and personal injury-related matters, including managing these matters at all stages (including under excess).
He fosters open working relationships and becomes a steady presence for clients across the life of a matter. He aims for early settlements where it makes commercial sense and is always one step ahead in finding solutions to problems before they become systemic issues.
Andrew obtained his law degree from the University of Notre Dame in Sydney.
